The first school of Tibetan Buddhism was named Nyingma (which literally means ancient). Its teachings and practices were brought from India to Tibet in the 8^th century by the Great Master Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) and other associated erudites, such as Vimalamitra and Shantarakshita.
